 ABOUT

An alumnus of the Jette Parker Programme at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Dominic Sedgwick he has already performed on many of the world’s leading operatic and concert stages.

In a season of debuts, Dominic commenced 2023/24 as Sid in Albert Herring for Opera North. He makes his house debut at Opéra national de Montpellier as Schaunard La Boheme and role debut as Figaro Il barbiere di Siviglia for West Green House Opera. On the concert platform, Dominic performs with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in Beethoven’s Mass in C and debuts with the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra in Bach’s Johannes Passion.

Looking further ahead, he looks forward returning to Opera North as Robin Oakapple Ruddigore, his house and role debut as Ned Keene Peter Grimes debut for Welsh National Opera, his debut at the Philharmonie de Paris, and a return to the Festival d’Aix en Provence.

The 22/23 season saw him make a number of notable house and role debuts, including Harlequin Ariadne auf Naxos for Opera North, Albert Werther for Grange Park Opera, Schaunard La Boheme for the Royal Opera, and performing at Teatro Colón, Buenos Aries in a dynamic new production of Kurt Weill’s Die Seben Todsünden. 

Further recent highlights include creating the role of Mark-Anthony at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in the world premiere of Julius Caesar by Giorgio Battistelli, Belcore L'elisir d’amore for Opéra National de Bordeaux, his debut at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence singing Merlot Tristan und Isolde, and English Clerk Death in Venice and Marullo Rigoletto, both for ROH.

Dominic was a Rising Star of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment from 2019-2022 and has worked extensively with the orchestra. Recent concert engagements include debuts at Bremen Musikfest and Berlioz Festival as Marullo Rigoletto with Le Cercle de l’Harmonie, Handel’s Messiah with the National Arts Center Orchestra with Bernard Labadie, Pilate in Bach’s Matthäus-Passion at the BBC Proms with Arcangelo and Jonathan Cohen and debuts with the Britten Sinfonia and at the Three Choirs Festival performing works by Vaughan Williams.

A graduate of the prestigious Jette Parker Programme at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, he made his debut in 2017 as Marullo Rigoletto, with further roles including Novice’s Friend Billy Budd (also covering the title role), Kuligin Katya Kabanova, Moralès and Dancaïre Carmen and Second Nazarene Salome. His cohort of Jette Parker artists were nominated for a 2020 Olivier Award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Opera’. 

He is an alumnus of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and continues to study with Robert Dean. He is a Samling Artist and has enjoyed working with the Samling Academy. He previously read Theology and Religious Studies at Clare College, Cambridge.
